How to Be Green this Spring: Tips from a St. Louis New Home Builder

Whether you truly love Mother Nature or you just want to save some cash on your next power bill, going green is an important part of home ownership today. As a trusted St. Louis new home builder, we’ve put together our top three tips for saving energy and going green this spring. With warm temperatures in our immediate forecast, now is the time to put you knowledge to use!
- Make an excuse to grill. Nothing says springtime like burgers and brats. So here’s an excuse to use the grill:
your stove creates more heat inside your home, meaning your AC is going to have to work that much harder to cool everything down. We don’t think you need much more incentive than that to go grill! - Set your thermostat on a timer. Having your thermostat set to 70 degrees for eight hours a day doesn’t help much if you aren’t there to enjoy the cool breeze. Many thermostats installed over the last few years feature a timing system so you can automatically program the thermostat throughout the day. For each degree above 78, you can save an additional six to seven percent in energy costs. Keep that in mind the next time you leave your home for the day!
- Close your blinds and curtains during the day. We all love natural light, but if you’re leaving your home, it’s wise to close your curtains and blinds. The sunlight they can let in when left open can heat your house significantly.
